Wow! What and amazing experience my family and I had at the Tavern. We spent a week on Martha's Vineyard and three out of the seven days we ate at Lookout Tavern. My favorite thing there were the lobster rolls, by far the best on the island in my opinion. We tried seafood shanty and black dog as well, but they didn't match up at all. The service was great and all three servers that we had(for a group of 10) we on point. They were quick, funny and were spot on with our orders. Shrimp baskets are a must and the Fish Tacos will blow you away. The portion sizes are huge so come with and empty stomach and to wash it all down Bad Martha's will do the job. My family and I will definitely be back and we will recommend Lookout Tavern to all of out friends.
Had a rum punch, the caprese sandwich with chips, my sister had a fried fish sandwich with fries. The fries are fine, the sandwich was fine, the chips were pretty good, and the drinks were okay. But three different employees were rude to us. In a near-empty restaurant we asked to sit on the back porch and were told the tables were for bigger parties (it was the two of us plus my toddler) and when we pointed out the back counter they agreed to seat us there. I parked the stroller to take the kid out (again, mostly empty place, I made sure I wasn't blocking anyone) and AS I'm folding it someone snaps at me that I can't leave it there. OKAY, thanks! I fold it up, put it in front of my stool, and the same person looks at me and asks if not kid isn't going to fall off the stool. He's almost three, not 6 months. But thanks for the concern. We eat, it's fine, we get up, and ANOTHER person tells me I can't put the stroller there. "There" being the spot my stool, on which I was sitting, was moments before I moved it to take the stroller out. IN A NEAR-EMPTY RESTAURANT. I get that this place is probably packed to the gills during the season, but it's mid-October, cold and rainy. That's WHY I even have the stroller. In the summer I wouldn't bother.
While their website could be done better, don't be discouraged by it. I had the chicken caesar salad. The chicken had a great taste to it. The service was exceptional and friendly. It also may be the hot spot in the area. The bar area was packed for the Jets- Patriots game. It is located very close to the ferry. You also can eat outdoors but you are a little isolated from the action going on inside. That said, it was quieter outside.
Loved it. All six of us ordered the warm sauteed lobster roll on a brioche roll. Just fantastic! Full of flavorful lobster on a delicious roll. We ate leftovers for lunch the next day and it was still delicious!
Awesome place to eat, definitely will have a wait during the tourist season, but it's not too bad since they'll text you when your table is ready. Plenty of things to do nearby in case of a wait. Friendly staff, excellent food, decent prices, amazing views. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone going to the island, it's a must do.
